Revelation 17:6-11 ALT . . .And I saw the woman being drunk from the blood of the holy ones {and} from the blood of the witnesses [or, martyrs] of Jesus. And having seen her, I was amazed with great amazement. (7) And the angel said to me, "Why were you [so] amazed? I will tell to you the secret [or, mystery] of the woman [false religion] and of the beast, the [one] carrying her, the one having the seven heads and the ten horns. (8) "The beast which you saw was, and is not, and is about to be ascending out of the bottomless pit and to be going away to destruction. And the ones dwelling on the earth will be amazed, whose names have not been written on the Scroll of Life from [the] laying of the foundation of [the] world [or, from [the] beginning of the creation of [the] universe], when they see the beast that was, and is not, and will come. (9) "Here [is] the mind, the one having wisdom: the seven heads are seven mountains, where the woman sits on them. (10) "There are also seven kings: the five fell, the one is, the other did not yet come, and when he comes, it is necessary [for] him to remain a short time. (11) "And the beast which was, and is not, is himself also an eighth [Also depicted by Daniel as the Little Horn (Dan 20-27)], and he is out of the seven, and he is going away to destruction.

Revelation 17:6-11 CEV . . .I could tell that the woman was drunk on the blood of God's people who had given their lives for Jesus. This surprising sight amazed me, (7) and the angel said: Why are you so amazed? I will explain the mystery about this woman [false religion] and about the beast she is sitting on, with its seven heads and ten horns. (8) The beast you saw is one that used to be and no longer is. It will come back from the deep pit, but only to be destroyed. Everyone on earth whose names were not written in the book of life before the time of creation will be amazed. They will see this beast that used to be and no longer is, but will be once more. (9) Anyone with wisdom can figure this out. The seven heads that the woman is sitting on stand for seven hills. [Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome, British/American world power] These heads are also seven kings. (10) Five of the kings are dead. One is ruling now [Rome in John's day], and the other one has not yet come. But when he does, he will rule for only a little while. (11) You also saw a beast that used to be and no longer is. That beast is one of the seven kings who will return as the eighth king [Also depicted by Daniel as the Little Horn (Dan 20-27)], but only to be destroyed.

Revelation 17:6-11 ESV And I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. When I saw her, I marveled greatly. (7) But the angel said to me, "Why do you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman [false religion] , and of the beast with seven heads and ten horns that carries her. (8) The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to rise from the bottomless pit and go to destruction. And the dwellers on earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world will marvel to see the beast, because it was and is not and is to come. (9) This calls for a mind with wisdom: the seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman is seated; (10) they are also seven kings, five of whom have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come, and when he does come he must remain only a little while. (11) As for the beast that was and is not, it is an eighth [Also depicted by Daniel as the Little Horn (Dan 20-27)] but it belongs to the seven, and it goes to destruction.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
